    A course for students enrolling in the Welding program. Topics include operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percents; metric system and unit conversions; perimeter, area and volume of regular and composite shapes; angular measurements; bends, stretchouts, economical layout and takeoffs. Prerequisites: None. This course DOES NOT meet any requirements of the Transfer Curriculum: it does not meet the general education requirements for A.A.S. degree students and is not a substitute for general electives.

  4. Learning Outcomes
    1. Perform and apply arithmetic with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
    2. Understand the relationships of number comparisons such as percentages, ratios and proportions and be able to apply those concepts.
    3. Convert units of measure within the English and Metric systems, as well as apply those conversions in application problems. Understand how measurement tools work such as rulers, tape measures, calipers and micrometers. Apply dimensional knowledge to tolerancing.
    4. Understand and analyze geometric calculations of two-dimensional and three--dimensional shapes in applications of mass, weight, volume and area.
    5. Measure angles with a protractor and perform arithmetic with angles in degree, minutes, seconds form and use knowledge in applications.
    6. Use mathematical calculations in metal working and pipe-fitting applications such as bends, stretch-outs, and economic layouts.
